Operations Manager
Chaotic Great Games is the indie publisher behind Gudnak, a fast tactical card game with a dumb name. We’ve run successful Kickstarters, shown at PAX East, GAMA, GenCon, and PAX West, and we ship product out of our own warehouse to hundreds of game stores and thousands of players. We’re looking to scale our own operations and jumpstart 3PL for other indie game creators like ourselves.
The role
We’re hiring an Operations Manager to own the physical side of CG: what comes in, what goes out, and whether it got there on time.
This is on-site at our Woburn warehouse and office. You need to be in the building, because the boxes are in the building. (Hopefully not for long.)
What you’ll do
- Own fulfillment. Direct-to-consumer orders, wholesale orders, distributor POs, and Organized Play kits go out accurately and fast. You run our warehouse management system and you’re the one who notices when something’s stuck.
- Own inventory. Know what we have, what we’re about to run out of, and what’s still on a boat. Counts that are actually correct.
- Run freight. Incoming print runs from our manufacturer (air and ocean), outbound convention freight to advance warehouses, international shipments, customs paperwork, and the occasional emergency LTL booking.
- Run convention logistics. Build the pack list, stage the pallets, get the booth to Seattle and Indianapolis and back with all of it intact. You’ll travel to 4–6 shows a year and work the booth while you’re there.
- Manage vendors. Carriers, print partners, packaging suppliers, freight brokers. Get quotes, push on rates, hold people to dates.
- Handle escalations. Damaged shipments, lost packages, retailer complaints.
- Improve the process. Every month should be a little less manual than the last. You’ll help spec improvements to our internal tooling and then actually use them.
What we’re looking for
- 3+ years in operations, fulfillment, warehouse, or logistics — somewhere real, at any scale
- You can lift a case of cards, move a pallet jack, and stand at a convention booth for nine hours
- Extremely organized
- Genuine interest in tabletop games
- Valid driver’s license
- Bonus: experience with 3PLs, distributors (Alliance, GTS, ACD), customs and duty paperwork, or convention/trade show logistics
- Bonus: you’ve used or built a WMS and have opinions about it
